Willy Wonka Party
Oh, what fun we had at our Willy Wonka party for Matthew and Sarah Beth. It was LOTS of work, but LOTS of fun for the kids. That's the point, right? Birthday parties are always a big deal in our family because we want our children to feel special and have great memories of their parties. This year was no exception.
Matthew and Sarah Beth have been watching the Chocolate Factory movie since we gave it to them for Valentine's Day this past year. They also love the new version, and often quote from the movie or sing the oompa loompa songs. They have enjoyed it so much, that Richard suggested that be the theme of their party this year- of course they loved that idea. So, creating that "paradise" in the movie where everything is edible was our goal. Of course, there's only so much you can do to a room to try to make it look like that. We did our best to create a chocolate waterfall/river, and had the chocolate fountain with lots of good things to dip in it. I think that was the favorite of the kids. Although, the cupcake decorating with all the different candies might have been a favorite, too. As the children came in, they were required to sign a "birthday fun" contract (like in the movie where they sign the contract before entering the factory). We had a huge screen with the movie playing during the entire party. After eating pizza, they settled down for a fun magic show, and the magician did balloon twisting for the kids throughout the party. Our games were rolling the blueberry to the juicing room and passing the golden egg. We had a fabulous turnout with about 25 kids, and I'm sure my little ones will never forget it!
A special thank you to Naomi and Abbey, who were truly our lifesavers in getting all the decorations up the day before, making us banana bread for our breakfast the day of the party, entertaining my kiddos, taking all the pictures, helping with clean up, and just about everything else that left my brain that day! I couldn't have done it all without them! Also, thank you to my mother who made all the cupcakes for us- that was a HUGE help!
As I said in the beginning....it was a LOT of work, but a LOT of fun! Until next year.....
The party was a lot of fun! Gracie had a wonderful time! She keeps asking if she can have a magician at her next party! Thank you so much for inviting us. It was a neat theme and very creative!
ReplyDeleteThis was a great party! Belle had a great time with all of the chocolate. My sister-in-law thinks it is a great idea for a theme and wants all of your ideas. Coincidentally, they are attending a "Fireproof" premiere in D.C. next Friday.
ReplyDeleteOf course she can use any idea that was worth anything.....she can probably come up with a better chocolate waterfall/river. That was a little difficult! There are tons of ideas on birthdaypartyideas.com. The games on there were just a little too sophisticated for our little ones this year, though, so we just improvised. They do have great suggestions, though. Hope you're all doing well!
ReplyDeleteWe had fun too! My favorite was the chocolate fountain... and I'm an adult!
